Mental queer being, Lisbon, 2025

Sumit Mehndiratta is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in New Delhi, India Raised in the 1990’s, he faced stigma as a gay man dealing with mental health issues, leading to a cathartic journey of self-acceptance. His project, Mental Queer Being, explores this journey, highlighting how medication helped him manage internal chaos while also num his emotions. Sumit incorporates visual references from his prescribed pills into his portraits, reflecting significant role in his identity.
